THE DETAILS
Privacy Policy
MakerSpark by arandoo, Inc. · Last updated: 2026-09-07
This Privacy Policy explains what MakerSpark by arandoo, Inc. ("MakerSpark", "we", "us", "our") collects when you use the MakerSpark member app, the member area at members.makerspark.io, and this website (together, the "Services"), what we do with it, who else touches it, and how you get rid of it.
The short version.
- We do not show ads, and we do not sell, rent or trade your personal data.
- You can delete your account and your data at any time at members.makerspark.io/account-deletion.
- Everything below says which third parties we use and exactly what each one gets.
1. What we collect
Account information
Your name and email address, and the sign-in credentials you set. Sign-in is handled by Clerk, our authentication provider; we never see your password.
Photos you send
If you use photo critique, the photo of your work that you upload is processed to produce the written feedback and is stored with your account so you can look at the critique again. Photos you attach to a community post or a direct message are stored with that post or message.
Community content and messages
Posts, comments, reactions, event participation and direct messages you send inside the community, including who you sent a direct message to and when. Direct messages are private between the participants and are not published, but they are stored on our systems and can be read by our staff when we investigate an abuse report or a legal request.
Helper questions and answers
The questions you ask the in-lesson helper, the lesson they were asked about, and the answers it produced. We keep them so you can reopen a conversation, and so we can see where a lesson leaves people stuck and fix the lesson.
Course activity
Which lessons you opened and completed, your progress and course completion, your lesson notes, downloads and certificates.
Push notification tokens
If you allow notifications, your device gives us a push token. It is tied to your account and your device so we can deliver a notification, and it is deleted when you turn notifications off, sign out, or delete your account.
Studio applications
If you apply to bring your studio to MakerSpark through the form on this website, we store what you enter (your name, email address, studio name, country and time zone, links to your website, social profiles and work, and your answers about your craft and teaching) together with any files you attach, in our customer relationship system. We use it only to review your application and to talk to you about it. Your application is kept while we review it and, if you join MakerSpark, for as long as your studio is with us; otherwise we delete it within twelve months of our decision, unless you ask us to delete it earlier. If you tick the optional box to receive news for studios, we email you about MakerSpark for studios until you unsubscribe, which every such email lets you do.
Device, usage and crash data
App version, device model, operating system version, language, IP address and session activity, plus crash logs and diagnostic reports when the app fails. Crash logs may contain the screen you were on and technical device state. We use them to fix the crash, nothing else.
Payment information
Purchases are made on the studio's own checkout, not in the app. When you buy, our payment processors (Stripe and PayPal) handle your card and billing details under PCI-DSS. We receive the transaction record, the billing country and the last digits of the card. We never store your full card number on our own servers.
2. Why we use it
- To give you access to the courses your studio enrolled you in, and to keep your progress in sync between the app and the web.
- To answer your questions about a lesson and to give you feedback on a photo you send.
- To run the community: show your posts to other members, deliver your direct messages, and enforce the community guidelines.
- To send the notifications you asked for and the service emails your account requires (sign-in codes, receipts, access changes).
- To fix crashes, keep the Services fast, and improve the courses.
- To meet legal, tax and accounting obligations and to prevent fraud and abuse.
3. No advertising, no sale of your data
MakerSpark shows no advertising. We do not sell, rent or trade your personal information, and we do not share it with data brokers or ad networks. We do not use your photos, your helper conversations or your direct messages to train a general-purpose AI model.
4. Cookies and tracking
The member app uses no advertising trackers. This website and the member area set the cookies needed to keep you signed in and to remember your language. Where the law requires consent for anything beyond that, we ask for it first and you can decline.
5. Who processes your data
We use a small number of providers, each of which only receives what its job needs:
| Provider | What it does | What it gets |
|---|---|---|
| Clerk | Sign-in and account security | Name, email address, sign-in credentials, session and device metadata |
| Expo push service (with Apple APNs and Google FCM) | Delivers push notifications to your device | Push token and the notification content |
| Bunny.net | Streams and stores lesson video | IP address and playback requests |
| Cloudflare R2 | Stores files: photos, materials, avatars, downloads | The files you upload or download |
| Resend | Sends our transactional and course emails | Email address and the message content |
| Anthropic | Powers the in-lesson helper and photo critique | Your question, the lesson text it answers from, and the photo you submitted for critique |
| Stripe and PayPal | Process payments on the studio's checkout | Card and billing details, transaction records |
We also disclose data to legal authorities when a valid law, subpoena or court order requires it, and to contractors acting on our behalf under the same obligations that bind us.
6. How long we keep it
Account data, course progress, helper conversations, photos and community content are kept while your account is open. When you delete your account they are deleted or irreversibly anonymised.
Two things outlive the deletion, because they must. Invoices, receipts and the transaction records behind them are retained for as long as tax and accounting law requires us to keep them. Records we need to defend a legal claim are kept until that claim is settled or time-barred. Neither is used to contact you or to rebuild your profile.
Content you posted publicly in the community may remain visible in the thread it belongs to, detached from your name, where deleting it would destroy another member's conversation. You can ask us to remove it entirely and we will.
7. Deleting your account
You can delete your MakerSpark account and the data attached to it at any time, without emailing anyone:
The page is also reachable from the app under Profile, and from Support. If you would rather we did it for you, write to [email protected] from the address on your account.
8. Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR in Europe or the CCPA/CPRA in California) you may ask us to give you a copy of your data, correct it, delete it, restrict or object to how we use it, withdraw a consent you gave, or take your data elsewhere. Exercising a right never costs you access to the Services. Write to [email protected] and we answer within the period the applicable law sets. If you are unhappy with the answer you may complain to your local data protection authority.
9. International transfers
We are based in the United States and our infrastructure and providers may store or process your data there and in other countries. Where data leaves the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, the transfer is covered by Standard Contractual Clauses with the provider concerned.
10. Security
Data is encrypted in transit, files and video are served from access-controlled storage, and access to production systems is limited to the people who need it. No system is perfect; if a breach affects your data we notify you and the authorities as the law requires.
11. Children
The Services are for people who have reached the age of majority where they live. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 16. If you believe a child has given us data, write to us and we will delete it.
12. Changes
We may update this policy. The current version always lives at this address with its revision date at the top. If a change materially affects how we use your data we tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect.
